As part of our expansion strategy, Ambulex is establishing the Ambulex Community First Response Network (AFRN) — a county-based network of highly skilled EMTs and Paramedics who provide rapid emergency response, stabilization, and evacuation support within their local communities. We are seeking passionate, professional, and community-oriented EMTs and Paramedics to join this exciting initiative.

Position Summary

The EMT/Paramedic will serve as an Ambulex First Responder within their county of residence and practice. The role involves responding to emergency cases dispatched through the Ambulex National Dispatch Centre, providing immediate pre-hospital medical care, stabilizing patients, coordinating evacuations, and supporting ambulance crews where necessary.

Successful candidates will become part of a growing national network dedicated to improving emergency healthcare access and saving lives across Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response
  • Respond to emergency calls assigned by the Ambulex Dispatch Centre.
  • Conduct rapid patient assessment and initiate appropriate emergency medical interventions.
  • Stabilize patients prior to ambulance arrival or during transportation.
  • Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) interventions within scope of practice.
  • Manage medical, trauma, obstetric, pediatric, and environmental emergencies.
  • Support inter-facility transfers and emergency evacuations when required.
  • Support patients during their hospital visits with procedures and movements.
Patient Care & Clinical Excellence
  • Deliver safe, professional, and evidence-based pre-hospital care.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to Ambulex Clinical Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
  • Ensure proper infection prevention and control practices.
Dispatch & Communication
  • Maintain active communication with the Ambulex Dispatch Centre throughout response operations.
  • Provide accurate scene updates and patient reports.
  • Coordinate effectively with hospitals, ambulance crews, law enforcement agencies, and other emergency responders.
  • Utilize Ambulex dispatch and reporting systems for case management and documentation.
Community Engagement
  • Serve as an ambassador of Ambulex within the local community, continuously helping them subscribe to Ambulex.
  • Promote awareness of emergency preparedness and emergency response services.
  • Support community outreach, first aid education, and health promotion activities when required.
  • Strengthen relationships with healthcare facilities and local stakeholders within the county.
Operational Readiness
  • Maintain availability according to agreed response schedules.
  • Ensure personal emergency equipment remains operational and ready for deployment.
  • Participate in routine drills, simulations, and training exercises.
  • Attend mandatory continuing professional development sessions organized by Ambulex.

Minimum Qualifications

For EMT Applicants
  • Certificate or Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Valid EMT certification.
  • Current professional registration where applicable.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
For Paramedic Applicants
  • Diploma or Degree in Paramedicine or Emergency Medical Care from a recognized institution.
  • Valid professional registration.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum one year experience in emergency medical services, ambulance services, emergency departments, critical care, or related healthcare settings.
  • Experience in pre-hospital emergency care is highly desirable.
  • Previous involvement in disaster response, community emergency response, or rescue operations will be an added advantage.

Compensation

Successful candidates will receive a monthly availability retainer, response-based compensation for completed emergency assignments, training and professional development opportunities, and access to Ambulex operational support systems and dispatch infrastructure.
